I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #18234) based in Victoria, British Columbia. I work with individuals and couples, in person or online.
I bring a holistic approach to my work, and prioritize collaboration and an authentic relationship between myself and those I work with. I utilize a collection of therapeutic approaches, tailoring what takes place in session to clients’ unique situations. I believe that both developing insight and new therapeutic experiences in session are critical for effective change to take place. So, I bring a variety of tools into session to stimulate self-insight, while also encouraging my clients to take courageous steps towards new types of experiences.. By embracing new experiences and gaining important insight, we create change!
I believe all aspects of an individual’s life, including their mind, body, emotions, behaviours, and relationships are each critically important to their well-being, and I work with clients to uncover and resolve confusion and conflict, helping them achieve a greater sense of integration and well-being.
The individuals I work with bring a wide range of challenges, including: trauma/PTSD/cPTSD; childhood abuse and neglect; anxiety and anxiety attacks; depression, hopelessness, and dissatisfaction with life; grief and loss; anger management; addiction; relationship conflict; gender and sexuality issues (i.e. men’s issues and masculinity, gender confusion/exploration, sexuality concerns); and more. It’s a long list! I believe that my work can benefit such a wide array of people because my approach is rooted in relational safety, patience, curiosity, encouragement, and compassionate challenging - factors that seem to reliably unstick people who are stuck!
Couples, too, bring a broad range of concerns into therapy with me. These include: desire to enhance connection, overcome emotional distance, and deepen intimacy; healing from attachment wounds; infidelity; dissatisfaction with sex life; mental health struggles of one or both partners; parenting concerns; navigating in-laws; and more. In all cases, I support couples to have a particular kind of conversation, one rooted in our innate human needs to be safe with and connected to those we love. By having these new types of conversations about these important topics - topics that have often been discussed a thousand times already - couples are more able to join with each other as allies to tackle shared problems together, communicate in new ways, and maintain greater levels of intimacy.
I aim to meet each client with relaxed, non-judgmental presence in order to build a supportive relationship in which they can be their open, authentic selves. I combine this energy with a focused, solution-oriented approach, so that each can feel heard and accepted as well as like they are using their time effectively to attain the changes they wish to see.
