CONSULTATION & SUPPORT GROUP FOR THERAPISTS
This group is designed for practicing psychotherapists who are interested in the theory and practice of Integrative Psychotherapy. It offers a safe and supportive environment both for clinical consultation and to address personal issues that may emerge through our work.
Integrative Psychotherapy is a comprehensive approach to relationally focused psychotherapy with a unique and well developed foundation of theory and methods. At the heart of Integrative Psychotherapy is the attuned and involved therapeutic relationship. Interventions are guided by the therapist’s knowledge of healthy human development and relationship needs, and a deep understanding of defenses formed in childhood in the attempt to cope with unmet needs and interruptions to contact.
The group is limited to six participants and the structure includes:
· Consultation and support around clinical issues
· Selected readings and discussion
· Demonstration and practice of theory and methods of Integrative Psychotherapy
· Opportunity to explore countertransference issues
· Work with group dynamics

Putting Neuroscience to Work: Connecting the Body & Mind
In Therapy and in the Therapist
Fundamental to any therapeutic work is the ability of both the client and the therapist to remain centered and grounded, utilizing all their resources. In this presentation skills will be practiced in utilizing psycho-motor patterns; particularly hypo responsive or resigned muscle areas. The focus will be training these to gradually support an expanded range of presence, supporting work with both developmental and traumatic patterns.
Ian MacNaughton, M.B.A., Ph.D., is an executive coach, organizational consultant, and psychotherapist in private practice. Over the last 35 years he has trained in and taught a number of modalities in the area of the Mind-Body and restoring optimal healthy functioning. Ian is the editor of Embodying the Mind & Minding the Body and Body Breath & Consciousness: A Somatic Anthology.

Why do we often get stuck in the same patterns over and over?
* Why re intimate relationships so challenging sometimes?
* Why do we get so reactive?
* Why do we end up feeling so disconnected and alone?
* How can I ever get over the hurt my partner has caused me?
* How do we bring back the passion in our relationship?
What We've Learned Along The Way: As a group of therapists who have worked in marriage and couples counselling for the last 10 years we've come to understand a few things very well about intimate relationships.
1. All couples inevitably and necessarily encounter some form of struggle.
2. These struggles often evolve into very rigid patterns over time and take considerable time and effort to redirect.
3. These entrenched cycles are very difficult to escape from for most couples.
4. Even when provided with the right information to help change these destructive patterns most couples are rarely able to apply the information to make effective changes.
5. Even when couples have experienced some degree of success in shifting negative patterns, the chances of the couple eventually reverting back to these old habits is extremely likely.
What Creates Real, Sustainable Change.
1. The Right Information - While there is a lot of information available to couples for how to improve their relationships, as it turns much of it just doesn't work. Outcome research on couples therapy tells us that there are many myths about just what makes for a healthy and happy relationship. It's important to stick with what actually works based on evidence, not just your hope or hunch.
2. Experiential Learning - Experientially learning embeds corrective emotional experiences into the central nervous system. Information is basically useless until it is integrated and so by actually participating in the new information you take the learning to a much deeper level that is much more sustainable. It's the difference between just reading the menu at the restaurant and eating the food.
3. Intimate Professional Coaching - Many real solutions are counter-intuitive, meaning they may be the last thing you think of, or they might just seem outright wrong. Having a professional show and help you navigate your way into the hidden pearls of wisdom. Also our experience has told us that the effectiveness of new information and tools is directly related to understanding the nuances - the small differences that make all the difference with the information.
4. Disciplined Application - "Insight without action is a daydream" New information must be practiced on an ongoing basis in order for it to be learned and integrated as a new way of thinking or behaving. Practice, practice, practice.
How We Created The Relationship Revolution Workshop Based on the proven principles of effective evidenced based change outlined above we set out to design a workshop series for couples that actually works in the real life world of intimate relationships.
1. The Right Information - We've sifted through our counsellor groups wealth of collective education, training and experience on relationship therapy and distilled down the 7 most proven and powerful evidenced-based habits of healthy, passionate relationships. We've drawn our information from some of most contemporary thinkers in the field of intimate relationships including John Gottman - The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, Sue Johnson - Emotionally Focused Therapy, Marshall Rosenberg - Nonviolent Communication (NVC), Harvel Hendrix - Imago Therapy, Marianne Williamson - Enchanted Love, David Schnarch - Passionate Marriage, and David Deida - Intimate Communion.Marriage Couples Workshop Vancouver
2. Experiential Learning - All of the information that we offer in the Relationship Revolution Workshop is backed up by experiential exercises that will give you a deeper understanding of the theory and it's application to real life relationship issues. This will integrate the ideas from the head and into the heart of your practices.
3. Intimate Professional Coaching - We keep the workshop at a maximum of 15 couples so that we can give specialized attention to each couple to help coach them through the nuances of the processes and help guide the teachings and experiential processes with particular attention to the nuances of each to bring about a deep intimate understanding.
4. Disciplined Application - A weekend workshop is only the beginning of the change process. Ongoing commitment to the learnings and practices is a must to create and sustain change. In addition to the full course training, we offer each participant a materials binder that has all the information and exercises so that you can continue the learning and practices at home. We also offer an 8 week process follow-up group facilitated by our therapists that will help you to work even more deeply with the practices and get personal support on any challenges you may be having. Practice, practice, practice! This support group helps to avoid the rubber band effect so common after a workshop high.
