Tara Hope is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Certified Teacher in private practice with specialized training in the prevention and treatment of eating disorders, body image dissatisfaction, self-esteem, and related issues. She works with men, women, youth, athletes, coaches, and families who are seeking peace with themselves, others, and food. In addition to her experience as a professional counsellor, Tara has over 20 years of experience working with people affected by disordered eating (compulsive eating, binge eating, restricting, purging, body dysmorphia), assisting them in their recovery journey as a mentor and peer counsellor. Tara is committed to helping her clients find the path that works best for them.
Tara has been the key-note speaker and workshop facilitator for large group, weekend retreats for persons seeking recovery from disordered eating at Bethlehem Retreat Centre in Nanaimo, BC, and Pilgrim Firs Conference Center in Washington State. Tara recently began working as a volunteer for Looking Glass Foundation for Eating Disorders — a Vancouver-based "charity dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of eating disorders, improving access to care, and responding to the desperate need for new programs and services". It is her hope that she can do outreach in her community in collaboration with Looking Glass in the near future, including workshops and presentations to assist in prevention and early intervention initiatives.
Tara and her husband, two teenaged children, and pets have lived in the Comox Valley for over 16 years. She enjoys long hikes in the woods with her dog, playing guitar, kayaking, creating art, and a really good cup of coffee. Mindful, meditative practice is an important part of her journey.
