Life as it unfolds reveals moments of elation, surprise, disappointment and the like. None of us are immune to problems, suffering or making mistakes. Counselling is a powerful way to manage some of the emotional turmoil and can make our lives happier, easier, and more fulfilling. My aim is to help clients to feel empowered, to have a better understanding of themselves and others, and to work towards their goals individually and in their relationships with others.
I have more than ten years of experience working with couples, families, children, teens and adults on a variety of emotional and psychological concerns. These include relationship issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders and body image, as well as career and workplace problems. My therapy style is warm, empathetic, and client-centered, which means, that I believe you the client is the expert in finding your answers and coming to resolutions. What I offer you is a non-judgmental, safe and empowering space to explore and excavate deep emotions and memories that might be presenting as blocks in your life. In therapy, I will follow your moment-by-moment experience and be with you as you go to places in your mind that you may be afraid to trek alone. I will give you my undivided attention, hear you and try to understand your individual life experiences, while facilitating your efforts in regaining balance with your self. I use several different validated treatment approaches, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing EMDR, dialectical-behaviour therapy (DBT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT) and Gottman couples counseling techniques.
To meet my clients I am available on the North Shore and Vancouver. I also provide distance counselling via the telephone and online. Additionally, as a consultant I work with clients referred from Homewood Health and EFAP, offering short-term soultion-focused counselling. Also I am covered through Crime Victim Assistance Program and can provide Trauma counselling to individuals covered by Victims Assistance.
I completed my Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and I have an MA from Southeast Missouri State University. My experience includes counselling and teaching at schools, universities, hospitals, business and community settings in the USA, United Arab Emirates, and Canada. I bring a diverse set of cultural and spiritual experiences to my work with clients. I am fluent in English, Hindi, and Urdu, and I have basic conversational skills in Punjabi and Arabic. Let's start a dialog today so you can better evaluate the benefits of therapy.
