My name is Robyn Newton. I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I obtained my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Adler University and have specialized training in play therapy by obtaining a certificate in play therapy from the Canadian Association for Child and Play Therapy, where I also volunteer as an ambassador to help spread awareness of child therapy. I am also an approved counsellor for the Crime Victim Assistance Program. I have experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds and cultures. I have used play therapy to help children address issues such as grief and loss, anxiety, depression, divorce, trauma and neglect, abuse, low self esteem, fear, separation from family, difficulties at school, and many other issues.
I believe that all children are striving to grow in ways that best help them negotiate their environment to meet their needs. Sometimes children's behaviour can meet their needs in ways that can cause problems for the family or the child in other areas of their lives. I strive to provide children and their families with an accepting, warm and non-judgmental space. This allows children to express and process their wants, needs and fears in a productive and meaningful way. This freedom of expression allows me to help families get to the root of the problematic behaviours and help families find happy and healthy connection.
