Randy Boychuck is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the Summit Counselling Group; and brings a lifetime of expertise to his practise. His distinctive and extensive combination of experiences as a therapist and educator, are evident in his ability to connect with his clients, working with them to overcome a variety of challenges that life has brought their way.
Randy believes the key to successful therapy is the depth and quality of the client-counsellor relationship. His natural, caring demeanour, coupled with his flexible, skilled approach creates an environment of comfort, safety and trust. His natural disposition of empathy, genuineness and unconditional respect for his clients is evident from the very first moment of the very first session.
Randy graduated with his Masters degree in Counselling Psychology from UBC in 1985; and started his counselling career while undertaking his doctoral studies. From there he focused on training and educating counsellors and therapists; teaching psychology classes at UBC, developing and teaching the Loss and Grief Counselling course for City University, and holding the Senior Trainer position for the Centre for Conflict Resolution of the Justice Institute of B.C. where he taught courses in Anger Management, Conflict Resolution, Mediation and Communication Skills.
Although Randy continues to teach and mediate, for the past 16 years his primary focus has been on clinical counselling. His work is influenced by significant additional training and education, including a three year program in gestalt therapy with the Gestalt Experiential Training Institute.
Randy brings decades of experience and therapeutic talent to the Summit group. He has helped literally thousands of people over the years, utilizing his unique therapeutic approach which incorporates solution focused and cognitive behavioural methods with psychodynamic (insight oriented) therapy. In his practice, Randy also draws heavily from Existential psychology and Buddhist philosophy. From his thirty years as a clinician, counsellor educator, and teacher Randy has created the incredibly successful model ‘Insight-Action-Change’, helping clients overcome obstacles they once felt were insurmountable.
