Maureen McEvoy, MA, RCC has been in private practice for more than 25 years. She works with individuals, couples and groups.
Maureen uses Imago Relationship Therapy in her work with couples. As an Imago therapist, Maureen believes passionately in the Imago mission statement to heal the world "one couple at a time". Maureen was first introduced to Imago when she and her partner Lawrence went to their first Getting the Love You Want workshop in 1993.
Since that personal introduction to Imago, Maureen has taken extensive training in Imago Relationship Therapy, becoming an Advanced Clinician in 1999. In 2006, Maureen and her colleague, Tamara Adilman became certified to offer the world renown Getting The Love You Want couples workshop. See our website link below for more information.
She also counsels clients who have experienced trauma, either recent or historical. She is certified in trauma modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DMNS). Other approaches include art therapies, hypnosis and mindfulness.
She is a long standing instructor with the Justice Institute of BC and also provides clinical consultation to various individuals and agencies. Maureen is truly gifted in her ability to teach and share with intention, hear with deep compassion and bring laughter to the learning process.
Maureen believes that each of us is able to be the author of our own lives and that psychological issues can never be reduced to the individual, but are always related to culture, social settings and society. She sees her role in counselling to provide an environment of safety to allow people to a deeper understanding of themselves and their situation, to befriend their challenges and embrace their strengths. Clients experience her as warm, respectful, curious, pragmatic and compassionate.
