Dr. Murdoch uses a client-centred, non-judgmental approach to help clients face current challenges. Although issues of the past may be explored, the focus is on health and functioning in the present and future. Her treatment draws heavily on cognitive and cognitive-behavioural therapy, with a focus on learning skills to better cope with both major life events and daily hassles. She has extensive experience working with adolescents and adults, both in private practice and in her work with young offenders through the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Presenting issues of clients include anxiety, depression, self-harm, anger management, addictions, relationship difficulties, parent-teen conflict, school and employment difficulties, bullying and harassment, and grief. Children as young as 10 may be seen, although typically Dr. Murdoch works with the child’s parents rather than the child directly.
Although Dr. Murdoch sees families who are adjusting to separation and divorce, she does not do custody and access evaluations. Both longer term therapy and short term consultations are available.
