One of my clients said that prior to coming to counselling she'd feared that the experience of therapy would be "like turning the room completely upside down." She instead found it to be "like finally turning the lights on in a room that had been dark."
I know that it takes courage to seek therapy. It means acknowledging (to ourselves and another) that something in our lives is not as we'd like it to be, and committing to the work of letting ourselves see, feel, and start to heal those parts of our lives we are no longer willing or able to keep dark.
