I am a bilingual and bicultural counsellor registered with BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. My approach in counselling is relational, contemplative and spiritual, intimately connected to humanistic philosophy of living. I view life as a process of overcoming difficulties and growth toward peaceful relationship with ourselves, others, and life difficulties. Fostering resilience, acceptance, optimism, wisdom and compassion, as pillars of optimum living, I empower my clients to use life challenges in the direction of self-actualization and equanimity. A successful therapy will naturally lead to personal and interpersonal awareness and mindful living.
I use a strength-based individualized treatment approach tailored to the unique needs and personality styles of clients. In doing so, I integrate such theoretical models as Adlerian, Psychodynamic, Systemic, Cognitive-behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, Interpersonal, Narrative, Solution-focused, and Contemplative Practices and Mindfulness Approaches. I am experienced in using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of Mental Disorders for a thorough understanding of clients’ psychological situations.
I have extensive experience working with the Crime Victims’ Assistance Program, Work Safe BC, and ICBC, serving clients with complex trauma and chronic pain. My professional services also include providing supervision and clinical consultation about a broad range of mental health issues to practicum students and practicing clinicians.
I have played a key role in a variety of new initiatives in the areas of community education and prevention. I have been recognized with five provincial awards for outstanding contribution to the field of counselling and for program design and development. I designed a spiritual approach to parenting, “Conscious Parenting: Transforming Family Relations”, introduced for the first time at the “Child and Youth Mental Health Matters” International Conference in 2012. I have authored and published a number of papers in professional psychology journals.
I am wholeheartedly committed to serving my clients. My sessions are thought provoking, challenging and fun. Clients experience me as compassionate, respectful, empowering, practical, and efficient. I am passionate about my work and dedicated to continuous personal and professional development.
