My Counselling Approach
The center of a healing relationship is based on openness, warmth, understanding and compassion.. My aim is to create a safe and respectful space for you to share your story, get clear about your goals and to learn how to use the counseling process to meet your needs.
I have developed a holistic counseling approach for the past 25 years by attending to my clients physical, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual needs. I place equal value on time for you to express your thoughts and feelings ,and time to learn new skills and strategies to support lasting change. While I believe it is important to recover from current or past challenges, I place equal importance on life satisfaction and learning how to create wellness and positive experiences in our lives.
Trauma Counseling: I offer a mind/body approach which focuses on recovery and empowerment from overwhelming life experiences. I provide help for medical trauma experiences that are current or historic, sudden or chronic and relationship based trauma involving emotional/physical abuse, sexual assult and those in authority. I provide skills and tools that enable you to unhook from physical and emotional triggers that interupt your ability to relax,create choices, experience confidence, and your ability to experience wellbeing.
Cancer support: I provide counseling and art therapy for children and adults diagnosed with cancer and family members supporting a loved one with cancer. I use counseling skills to support a minfulness based cancer recovery program. Through my personal experience as a cancer patient 20 years ago and a caregiver to a sister successfully treated for Cancer; I am passionate about survivorship and supporting others as they step back into life after medical treatment. Art Therapy: I use mindfulness based art therapy and Art Psychotherapy to support counseling goals, healing and recovery.Learn to trust the creative process and develop your "visual language". Learn how images and forms can heal, guide, and communicate meaning. Art Therapy can also help you to cope with fatigue, depression, anxiety, and express memories and experiences that are beyond words. Learn how creative expression can support you in thriving, increasing your vitality and discovering pleasure and joy.
Adoption/Attachment counseling: I have worked with those connected to the adoption expereince since 1989 and developed resources and skills for adopted children/teens, adopted adults, birth parents and adoptive parents.I provide help for; parenting adopted children, reunion relationships, and communication/relationship skills unique to adoption and compaasionate support for complex loss and grief and adoption seperation. I have completed training in attachment therapy and provide skills and knowledge about how we develop styles of relating and how to create a secure and satisfying connections with others.
