Louise Cournoyer is a therapist/counsellor who practices in New Westminster and Burnaby. She has been using her compassionate, non-judgemental approach to counsel adults and families for more than 15 years over a wide range of concerns. Louise is certified as a Canadian Counselor (CCC) from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and she is a member of Québec’s College of Psychologists.
Louise has a special interest in working with clients who present with symptoms of anxiety, phobia, panic, depression using insight based and skill based therapy, including mindfulness. She also enjoys working with clients with relationship issues, including parent-child, couples, common law, same sex, etc, and has worked extensively with issues related to families. Louise helps clients increase their sense of compassion and acceptance of themselves.
Her clinical training is in Emotion-Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and she grounds these approaches on each person’s needs and stated goals. Her practice is trauma and family systems informed. In addition, she has completed Gottman’s level 1 Couple’s Therapy Training.
Louise has worked as a therapist with different institutions (schools, hospital and health authority) and agencies in the Lower mainland. In addition, she worked as a Mediator with the BC Teacher’s Federation.
Louise has completed a degree in psychology from McGill University. She also earned a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University, as well as a Master’s of Education from the University of British Columbia.
Louise worked as a counsellor in South America, and is interested in pursuing her interest with multicultural issues.
