Many people struggle with anxiety, stress, fear of the future, fear of things others aren’t be bothered with. They are tired of worrying about things they can not change, or things they have trouble figuring out how to deal? Do you find your thought repeating themselves, overwhelming your daily events? Have you experienced counselling as unhelpful, judgmental or too ‘soft’?
Louise Chivers is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with more than thirty years of experience working with clients with anxiety, trauma and stress issues.
Anxiety has a way of taking over a person’s life; limiting it and making it uncomfortable. Trouble with relationships and in their work life permeate. People struggling with anxiety see their world in terms of limits, and, therefore, have a need to control their environment and their loved one in an effort to control their fears. They long to be in the moment, enjoy the world and relationships around them, as they see others do. Anxiety makes this hard to impossible for them.
I can help. I have worked with clients with anxiety for over 30 years. I know what works and am able to explain the process of change to those suffering, helping them live the life they want. Anxiety is treatable. Freedom from the obscure limits, repeating thoughts and the need to control, is possible.
I use well researched and proven psychotherapeutic tools to help people deal with anxiety, worry and panic, and to make positive changes. Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) focuses on the thoughts and behaviours behind anxiety. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) goes deeper, addressing the underlying roots of anxiety, even changing its physiological presentation. I am a mature woman with both professional experience working with people suffering from a variety of anxiety disorders and symptoms, and personal experience with life’s difficulties as a mother and woman.
As well as many years working one to one with adult clients, I worked for the health authorities running anxiety, worry, panic and obsessive compulsive disorder groups on Vancouver Island and at Royal Columbia Hospital for several years. I have a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from UBC, working in the field for over 30 years. I am trained in EMDR and CBT and helped hundreds of people regain freedom from their thoughts and behaviours that have held them captive for so long. I like people and especially enjoy their pleasure with a joyful and full life, free of anxiety, worry and obsessive thoughts.
