The process of choosing a counsellor can be overwhelming especially if you are already struggling with painful emotions, relationship conflict or the quandry of indecision about which direction to take in your life. It's important to choose someone who you feel comfortable with, but who is also skilled enough to help you feel better. Having a great relationship with your therapist is is extremely important, but empathic listening isn't enough. A good therapist will help you to recognize patterns of thinking, behaving and relating. She will help you attune to your emotions and intuition so you come to know your self more deeply. Ultimately working with a good therapist will help you to create the life you would like according to your most deeply held values.
Katherine has years of experience helping clients to overcome depressions, relax anxieties and achieve successful and satisfying relationships with loved ones. The pain of depression and anxiety is very difficult to live with and an investment in counselling to learn the skills to resolve inner conflicts can be a very worthwhile gift to oneself. Our loved ones benefit as well when we make a committment to helping ourselves.
Most of us long to connect deeply with others. It is part of human nature to want to connect, share and relate, however many people have significant obstacles to creating lasting, close, meaningful relationships. Some of us fear being overwhelmed by too much closeness and obligation, others have fears of abandonment or rejection. In therapy with Katherine clients begin to look at these obstacles so they can be removed, and to face fears so they can be overcome.
Life is full of surprises and curve balls. In every person's life we encounter the transitions we expected such as our children growing up as well as those we didn't plan on such as divorce, death of a loved one or career dissatisfaction. Whatever the catalyst, transitions can unsettle us because our usual coping styles are not robust enough to handle the challenge. Suddenly we are at a loss and we are called on to examine what our real values are. Transitions, difficult as they are can be an invaluable opportunity for growth if the process is approached with awareness and curiosity. Katherine works with clients to help them navigate the changes while learning and growing to improve one's functioning and quality of life. Katherine helps clients to use these critical times to expand one's sense of self so clients becomes stronger, happier and more fulfilled
