My Approach to Treatment
My work with my clients begins with creating a trusting relationship where people can express themselves freely. I draw upon techniques from cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, narrative, and other therapies to help people achieve positive changes in their lives.
What You Can Expect
Prior to booking an appointment I will need to know a bit about your reasons for seeking counselling so I can determine if I can assist you. We can do this by telephone or email. During your first session we will talk about what you would like to see change in your life, and how we might work together to make those changes happen. You will also have the opportunity to ask me questions about the process. I realize that most people have limited coverage for counselling, and I try to make each session as productive as possible. Feedback is always welcome.
The number of sessions you need depends on many factors, but 3 - 10 sessions is typical for many of my clients. How often you book a session is entirely up to you, except I do not see clients more than once per week.
I have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Victoria. I have worked with many different types of clients, such as people with chronic pain, depression, anxiety, addictions, workplace stress, family issues, and self-esteem issues. For the past year a large part of my work has involved people with PTSD. I also provide assessment services for various federal government agencies. I work with adults only.
