I am a Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW) and have offered counselling and psychotherapy services for over a decade in many settings, including family service organizations, substance use clinics, hospitals and private practice. My clients have come from very diverse backgrounds and presented with equally diverse concerns that they wish to address through counselling. As a therapist you will find me to be highly respectful while demonstrating genuine curiousity about how you view yourself, your relationships and the world around you. I am available to meet with you in person in my downtown office location, or from wherever you may be via Skype.
Some of the challenging life experiences that I have helped clients with include the following:
Rather than focus solely on the problem itself, I am often keen to also explore the optimism that brings a client into counselling.
In my experience, this kind of attention allows a liveliness (and a powerful impetus for change) to come into the therapeutic process. One of my primary roles is to help you chart an intentional course for your life and support your navigation of the psychological, emotional and/or social barriers that exist.
My educational background is in both Psychology (BA from Simon Fraser University) and Social Work (MSW from University of Toronto). My practice is influenced by formal and accredited training in several models of therapy including Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reductions. I am also a Certified Tobacco Educator for those looking for some help to quit or cut back smoking. When we first meet, we will develop a plan together about how I can apply my skills and education in a way that is unique to your situation and, ultimately, effective.
I always encourage people to “shop around” before deciding on a counsellor. To support this I encourage you to give me a call and we can have a brief conversation, free of charge, so you can get a sense as to whether or not I may be able to offer you the kind of support and service that you are looking for.
