James is a counsellor who practices multicultural counselling in Vancouver, Richmond and Metro Vancouver, BC. James provides cross cultural counselling and therapy to a variety of ethnic and minority immigrants and second generation Canadians including Chinese-Canadians, Indo-Canadians, Persians, Filipino and other immigrants.
As a therapist, James offers individual counselling for ethnic minorities as well as marriage and couples therapy. His clients struggle with issues such as personal identity and belonging, relationship problems—especially challenges in cross-cultural relationships-- intergenerational family and parenting struggles and challenges in cross cultural communication. James’ clients often feel “caught” between their traditional culture and Canadian culture.
James, a third generation Chinese Canadian helps clients to develop a strong sense of peace, self-assurance and pride in their ethnic identity. He helps bridge the gap in intergenerational conflict between immigrants and second-generation children. As a marriage and couples counsellor, he helps couples develop more closeness and intimacy as they build a lasting relationship.
Combining his professional training in counselling with his third generation minority life experience in Vancouver, James understands the hardships and challenges immigrants and later generations face. As a manger, trainer and counsellor working with immigrants, he is knowledgeable about racism and the barriers new comers face in Canada He understands the subtle nuances of discrimination and judgment children of immigrants experience at home and at work. With a background in political science, psychology and mindfulness meditation, James uses a holistic approach when counselling clients.
