Joan has been in the field of counselling for over 17 years. She is in private practice in association with 5 other counsellors. She finds enjoyment in her work as she witnesses courage in the presence of adversity and clients' determination as they search for understanding, acceptance, healing and change. In the context of a therapeutic professional relationship, client and counsellor explore emotions, perceptions, solutions and ideas with the goal being the development of self-empowerment, increased personal capacity and positive change. The work is frequently blended with moments of lightheartedness and humour.

Joan's focus is to assist her clients to find a way through difficult issues, easing the pain of suffering, learning new ways of responding to trying situations and finding hope in some of life's darkest moments.

Her undergraduate degreee is in Nursing and in 1990 she received her Masters Degree. Learning has been an ongoing interest since then as she continued to pursue knowledge of Brief/Solution focused Therapy, Family Therapy, Self-Regulation Therapy, Mindfulness etc. She was delighted to be able to complete her certification in EMDR Therapy as she has found it such a powerful way to assist clients with trauma histories.
