Thank you for taking time to explore my page. My name is Heather MacPherson and I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Victoria. I have an office on the Burnaby/Vancouver Border, and an office in Langley. I also see clients via Skype. My passion lies in assisting individuals to live their lives to their fullest potential. I believe that creating a safe space for individuals to explore their lives and that building a strong therapeutic relationship are the first and foremost important factors in the counselling process.
Whether you struggle with OCD, PTSD (trauma), an eating disorder, borderline personality traits, anxiety, depression or other difficulties, the first step to healing is often reaching out to someone, breaking the isolation. You are making that first step. The discoveries made in counselling can be an important part of your healing. As a counsellor, I strive to create a warm and welcoming place where clients can come to explore, grow, and find increased healing from difficulties, therefore creating change and growth. As a highly relational person, my attuned attention and compassionate nature support a large part of my practice. I firmly believe that healing takes place, partly, in relationships. It is within the therapeutic relationship that I tailor specific theoretical approaches (CBT, DBT, Narrative, ACT, EMDR etc.) to meet each individual’s unique strengths, desires, processes, and needs.
I work with teens and adults who face the effects of a variety of difficulties such as symptoms of OCD, anorexia, bulimia, EDNOS, over-eating, PTSD, borderline personality traits, anxiety, and depression. I have experience supporting individuals who have been affected by trauma and have specialized training in supporting survivors of trauma. I am also trained in EMDR. Having worked for one of BC’s Provincial Specialized Eating Disorders programs, I also have extensive experience working with individuals struggling with anorexia, bulimia, and EDNOS.
Feel free to look at my website and/or contact me for a free 15 minute phone conversation to determine if you would like to set up an appointment.
I am registered with the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) which contributes $80.00 towards each counselling session for clients who have experienced crime/trauma and who are approved for the funding.
I look forward to hearing from you.
