I am a Registered Social Worker in BC and a Licensed Master Social Worker in the USA, with a Master of Science in Social Work specializing in Mental Health from the University of Alabama, USA. I am trained and have worked as a mental health clinician, therapist, and educator to deliver diagnostic assessment based on DSM, to treat depression, anxiety disorders, and psychiatric illnesses with an emphasis on the interplay among mental conditions and physical health together with social well-being. The foundation of my practice is a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, into which I weave elements of Acceptance, EMDR, Mindfulness, Satir, and Solutions Focused Therapies. I also apply Emotional Freedom Techniques, Positive Psychology, and East-West approaches to work with my clients. I believe a collaborative working relationship between therapist and client promises the best outcomes. Drawing from my clinical skills and experiences, I bring my openness, gentle curiosity, and expertise in a variety of evidence-based strategies for symptoms management and behavioral change. You are the sole and ultimate expert on your feelings, thoughts, expectations, wisdom, life energy, and source of changes. We come together to learn and to teach each other in order to facilitate changes and growth in your life journeys.
I have expertise in helping people with:
Group Therapy is another area I am experienced in. I believe experiencing group counselling provides a setting where you can share concerns and ideas; you will also gain personal awareness and growth through observation and interaction with group members, and guidance of the group counsellors.
Some group work I offer:
Through my established partnerships with various organizations, I have the opportunities to coordinate and facilitate health and mental health presentations and workshops to culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Please refer to my practice website for further information. If you are interested in participating or partnership, please contact me.
Having trained, lived, and worked in Hong Kong, the USA, and Canada, I have first-hand experiential understanding of the issues of immigration, adaptation, and settlement, as well as life transition, and grief and loss. I am committed to bringing flexible, integrative, and culturally sensitive approaches to focus on collaboration. Together with my fluency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, I have become more passionate in the transcultural issues and interventions.
In addition to my private practice, I was employed with the Cross Cultural Mental Health Program of Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCH); I transfer these valuable skills and experiences to my current position as a Community Mental Health Clinician at the Northeast Mental Health Team of VCH, to continuously provide individual, family, and group counselling, as well as educational workshops and presentations in our community.
