I am also registered as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association.
I practice from a trauma informed perspective and that means the importance of helping support individuals is of utmost importance to me. Based on Judith Herman's work, trauma work passes through three stages. The first stage is to regain safety in one's body and be able to manage the somatic responses that result from trauma. The second stage is to then process the trauma. The final stage is being able to move forward with life. Each stage is crucial to healing and wholeness. Providing safety and understanding through the therapeutic relationship can make a difference for those who have experienced trauma.
I am certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) through the International Association of Trauma Professionals in the USA. Dr. Eric Gentry, author of this trauma training, brings together components of mindfulness, various types of grounding techniques helping the client move through a narrative focus towards healing of trauma..
I also have additional training in Addictions Counselling helping those individuals whose life has become unmanageable as a result of the activity or substance and in spite of negative consequences, the individual continues to participate in the activity or use of the substance.
