I help adults and older adolescents overcome depression, anxiety, sadness, stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and grief. I also help people with self-esteem issues and relationship concerns.
I am trained in and use several short-term treatments that are rigorously researched and/or described in the professional literature, including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which is the treatment of choice for depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and several other problems; Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), and Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PET).
My focus is to help people return to their previous level of functioning or better, and may include back-to-work readiness for those people who have been off work due to depression, anxiety or another mood disorder.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#2345) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, and have practiced in B.C. for 17+ years. I am a graduate of McGill University and was a school psychologist in Montreal for 1 year. My background includes family therapy, individual psychotherapy, and parenting issues before my interest took me into training as a cognitive behavioral therapist for depression. I am also an approved counsellor for the Crime Victims' Assistance Program in B.C. (If you are the victim of an illegal act, you may qualify for coverage of your counselling sessions.) I am also an approved counsellor for several Canadian & US EFAP programs.
