"I have a deep passion for my work and value the therapeutic relationship as foundational for successful therapy outcomes. I aspire to meet those I support in the sacred place of possibility. Open-hearted and compassionate, I have a genuine respect for everyone's unique process. I am told that I am gentle and keenly skilled at providing safety both physically and culturally as well as providing a nourishing environment inviting rest, integration and the diving deeper into personal healing and growth.
Inspired by beauty and the natural world, I thrive in creating a safe container for people seeking personal growth and healing. Born in 1969 in Montreal, Quebec, I moved to the beautiful Kootenays in 1996. I worked as a retreat Lodge owner and retreat facilitator for 8 years prior to working in social services specifically in mental health and addictions related services for 10 years. I have a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology, a Bachelors in Social Work and am a Registered Social Worker (# 10120) in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers.
I have always felt an intimate kinship with the natural world and horses have been a crucial part of my own healing journey. This was particularly potent during my recovery from stage three breast cancer in 2013. My close relationship with nature and animals (especially horses and dogs), and my amazing life partner, family and close friends have supported me through a radical mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation therapies. I firmly believe that these interconnected relations and my healthy lifestyle continues to strongly assist my own healing.
My views of Health & Approach: I understand health and healing as a dynamic process that involves balancing the spiritual, emotional, physical and psychological. I am fluent in both French and English and hold strong non-verbal communication skills as well. Overall, my practice is inspired by Positive Psychology, the natural world, the transpersonal (how we make meaning of deeply personal human experiences), compassionate and somatic (body-centered) modalities.
In my free time I also love exploring the mountains, gardening, cooking, doing yoga, meditating, singing in a choir and painting to name just a few favorite activities".

Testimonials " Inspiring warrior of the heart, piercing blue eyes, eagle eyes seeing through one self. I feel her feet grounded in the earth and her chest wide open to spirit, love flowing in and out... body moving with grace and comfort". (Laurence Kemp, July 2016). "Anni's strength is her ability to connect with her clients and form a therapeutic relationship - especially female clients with a history of trauma.. she is an excellent counsellor, intuitive & skilled." (Malabar, C, December, 2015). "I found the space to be emotionally very safe and was surprised by the emotions coming up for me that do not often surface, because I felt comfortable enough to be my full self. I could be truthful with/about myself in another person's presence. About the horses, they are so real and honest. Already coming from a horse background in a very "horse and rider" kind of relationship, it felt so healing and freeing to connect with the horses on a whole new level, being to being. Anni's guidance was invaluable in showing me how to get to those places." (Individual client, July 14, 2015). "Anni and Tamrah made an outstanding difference in our son's life, and that of our whole family." (Parent of youth client April 15, 2015). "When I was going through some difficult times in my life, Anni offered me what I needed - whether I knew it or not: shelter, safety, beauty, non-judgement, deep listening, beautiful vistas, compassionate heart, the space to be until the cloud lifted and I was able to process what I needed to." (Program participant, June 8, 2009). "The experience I just had at Whispering Herd was calm, beautiful, rich, emotional, ecstatic, insightful, paced to my rhythm. Tamrah was patient, present, gentle, alert, willing, supportive. She was clear in her responses and let me see when my communication or intention was clear and safe and when it was not. As I adjusted, she adjusted." (Program participant August 18, 2010). "In her work with clients Anni was observed to be respectful, non-pathologizing and able to focus on client strengths. She was appropriately transparent and able to hold her own power but not overpower in the therapist-client relationship. In her group work Anni was always prepared for the session and good at reading the energy level of the group and adjusting the pace and content as needed. Anni has a gift for therapy work and has the potential for excellence in her field." (Jan Rebus, March 22, 2009).
