Ann-Marie, a Canadian Certified Counsellor, holds a Master’s degree in Counselling from ACTS of Trinity Western University. Through her respectful and caring approach, clients immediately sense that their concerns and difficulties are important and that Ann-Marie wishes to work with them to bring tangible change.
Since starting work as therapist in 2007, Ann-Marie has enjoyed working with a wide variety of clients, including individual adults, couples, children and youth. In Ann-Marie’s sessions, couples are often directed toward interactions with each other. “I know that it can feel impossible to repair a relationship when personal history and experiences of each other get in the way. It’s at times like this when a therapist can help a couple to hear one another as they attempt to move toward understanding, healing and growth.” Ann-Marie provides support to individuals as they explore and realize the great number of ways they are strong; how this has helped and how it can continue to provide benefit as they negotiate the difficulties and changes in life.
Areas that Ann-Marie works with include:
Ann-Marie believes that counselling must be client-centered, relying on collaboration between the therapist and client. Therefore, a counselling approach can be decided only after discussing client needs. Ann-Marie’s most common approaches for adults and adolescents are Emotion-focused and Satir, with integration of Cognitive, Behavioral and Family Systems approaches as appropriate. In her work with children, Ann-Marie relies on attachment theory and makes use of play therapy as well as behavioral and parenting interventions.
