My #1 priority is to help families and their addicted loved ones overcome addictive behaviours such as drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, smoking, gambling, internet addiction, compulsive over-spending, and codependency in relationships. I assist people in making the choice to stop their addictions so that they can lead rich and meaningful lives. As well as working with addicts, I specialize in counselling family and friends whose loved ones are struggling with addiction, helping them to learn about the difference between helping and enabling, how to set and maintain appropriate boundaries, and to put more attention on their own lives. This not only improves their quality of life but also helps their addicted loved ones.
With over 25 years of experience as a therapist, educator, consultant, and speaker - and with an M.A. in Counselling Psychology - I assist clients with issues that relate to self-esteem, self-care, family of origin, and relationships through individual, couple, and family therapy. I also offer customized programs for families who are being negatively affected by a loved one's addiction. Please contact me for more information about these programs. You can also visit my website and sign up to receive a free copy of Chapter 1 of my book, Loving an Addict, Loving Yourself: The Top 10 Survival Tips for Loving Someone with an Addiction.
By working with me, you will benefit from having a therapist who has her own personal experience of recovery from addiction. With over 30 years of continued abstinence from my own addictive behaviours - and as the loved one of addicts - I understand what you are going through and offer non-judgemental assistance to you as we go through this phase of your journey together.
